What is SEO, and what does it do for a small business?
SEO, search engine optimisation, is the work of making your website easy for Google and for searchers to find, understand and trust. It covers four things: the technology under the surface, the content you publish, how you appear locally and which other sites link to you. The aim is more relevant visits, not just more visits.
Links matter for a simple reason. Google says it mainly finds new pages through links from pages it has already crawled.
- Technical: fast pages that work on mobile and that Google can read
- Content: pages that answer what customers actually ask
- Local: a complete Business Profile on Google and the same details everywhere
- Links: other websites that point to yours
What does technical SEO include?
Technical SEO makes sure Google can find, read and index your pages. That means fast pages, a mobile version that works in full, sensible headings and URLs, a sitemap and structured data that describes what each page is about. Visitors rarely notice these faults, but they can hold back everything else you do.
- Mobile first: Google uses the mobile version of your site for indexing and ranking.
- Speed: Core Web Vitals are used by Google’s ranking systems, but good scores alone don’t guarantee a top position.
- Indexing: pages that should appear must be indexable, and pages that shouldn’t must be kept out.
- Structured data: a standardised format that describes a page’s content, such as your business, services and FAQs.
How does local SEO work for a business in Stockholm?
Local SEO is about appearing when someone nearby searches for your service, in Google’s local results. According to Google’s own help page, three things matter most: relevance, distance and how well known the business is. A complete, accurate Business Profile, reviews and a website that matches the profile are the foundation.
Google says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up in local results, and that more reviews and positive ratings can help. So fill in your category, opening hours, services and contact details, and make sure the same details appear on your website.
What content helps a small business get found?
Pages that answer the questions your customers actually ask: what the service costs, how it works, which area you cover and what makes you different. Google describes good content as helpful, reliable and written for people. Think about the words your customers use, not what the industry calls things.
We recommend a separate page for each service, with a clear heading, a short answer at the top and the detail below. It’s the same layout as this page.
How does my business get cited by AI assistants?
There’s no shortcut. Google says there are no additional requirements or special optimisations needed to appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode. A page needs to be indexed and eligible to appear in Search with a snippet. In other words, good basic SEO is the same work. Nobody can control what an assistant chooses to cite.
What you can influence is clarity. Short, factual answers under headings phrased as questions, with details people can check, are easy to read and easy to quote. Google also says you don’t need special AI files or extra structured data for this.
How long does SEO take, and can anyone guarantee first place?
SEO takes time. Google says some changes can take effect within a few hours, while others can take several months. So expect months rather than weeks before you can judge the results. And nobody can guarantee a number one ranking on Google. If someone promises that, Google’s advice is to find someone else.
That’s why we don’t promise rankings. What we do promise is a fixed price and a review in Search Console every month, so you can see what is happening.
