How much does a website cost in Sweden in 2026?

It mainly depends on the type of site. According to Offerta, a simple landing page costs roughly SEK 5 000–15 000, a site with custom features SEK 20 000–50 000, and an online shop or bespoke web app SEK 50 000–100 000 or more. On top of that come running costs for the domain, hosting and maintenance.

These are guide figures, not fixed prices. Offerta itself says the prices are approximate and depend on several factors. Two quotes for “a website” can differ a lot, because they often describe different things.

  • Simple blog or landing page, for example on WordPress: roughly SEK 5 000–15 000, depending on design and features.
  • Company site with custom features: roughly SEK 20 000–50 000, and more if integrations or bespoke design are needed.
  • E-commerce or bespoke web app: roughly SEK 50 000–100 000 and up, depending on the number of products, integrations and payment flows.

What affects the price of a website?

Mostly scope: how many pages, how much bespoke design and which features the site needs. Next comes content, meaning who writes the copy and sources the images, how many languages the site will have, and whether it must connect to other systems such as booking, payments or accounting.

The hourly rate matters too. According to Offerta, it runs from about SEK 500 an hour for simpler jobs to SEK 1 000–1 500 an hour for more advanced projects.

  • Pages. More pages mean more design, more content and more to test.
  • Design. A ready-made template is quicker than a design created for your business.
  • Features. Forms, booking, logins and online shops take different amounts of time to build.
  • Content. Copy, photos and illustrations take time, whether you make them yourself or buy them in.
  • Languages. Every extra language needs translation and a pass through every page.
  • Integrations. Links to payments, a CRM or accounting software have to be built and tested.

What are the running costs of a website?

Domain, hosting and maintenance. The domain and hosting are paid yearly or monthly, often with a lower introductory price in the first year. Maintenance covers updates, backups and small changes. You can do it yourself, pay by the hour or put it in an agreement with a fixed monthly fee.

An example from October 2026: Loopia, the registrar that, according to the Swedish Internet Foundation, registered the most new .se domains over the last 90 days, charges SEK 289 a year to renew a .se domain. Its Företag hosting plan costs SEK 279 a month once the introductory period ends. Both prices exclude VAT.

Other providers charge differently. Compare the regular price, not just the introductory one, and check whether email, SSL and backups are included.

Should I build it myself, hire a freelancer or use an agency?

It depends on how much time you have and how much the site needs to do. A website builder costs the least money but the most of your own time. A freelancer often means close contact but is a single person. An agency usually costs more, but brings more skills and more people who know your site.

  • Do it yourself: according to Driva Eget, roughly SEK 0–200 a month depending on the platform. Fine for a simple start. But design, copy, SEO and troubleshooting become your job, and moving the site to another platform later can be hard.
  • Freelancer: often personal contact and flexible arrangements. Ask who takes over if they fall ill or stop, and what support you get after launch.
  • Agency: design, development, SEO and advertising can sit in one place. The downside is often a higher price and more layers between you and the person actually building.

How do I compare website quotes?

Compare what is included, not just the total. Ask each supplier to state the number of pages, features and languages, who provides the copy and images, how many rounds of changes are included, what it costs every year and who owns the domain, code and accounts. That brings hidden costs out before you sign.

Common hidden costs are plugins and templates with yearly fees, image licences, translations, extra changes and hosting that gets more expensive after the first year.

  • Is it a fixed price or time and materials, and does it include VAT?
  • How many pages and languages are included, and what do extra ones cost?
  • Who writes the copy and sources the images? Are image and font licences included?
  • How many rounds of changes are included, and what do later changes cost?
  • What do the domain, hosting and maintenance cost per year after any introductory price?
  • Are the domain, code and accounts in your name, so you can switch supplier?
  • Is support included after launch, and for how long?
  • What does the payment schedule look like?

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a website for free?

Some website builders have free tiers, but they usually come with limits. According to Driva Eget, building it yourself costs roughly SEK 0–200 a month depending on the platform. Count your own time as well.

Who owns the website once it is finished?

That should be in the contract. With us you own the code, and files, accounts and the domain are in your name. You are not locked into our platform.

Are prices with or without VAT?

Always check. Our prices exclude VAT, which is 25 % in Sweden. When you compare quotes, make sure every figure is calculated the same way.

What does it cost to change the site later?

It depends on the supplier. With us, smaller changes cost SEK 995 an hour excluding VAT, with a minimum of one hour. Hosting Plus at SEK 1 490 a month includes two hours of changes every month.

How long does it take to build a website?

It depends on the scope. Our Start package is done in 2–3 weeks. For larger projects the timeline is in the proposal, together with the fixed price.

Not with us. The first call is free, and afterwards you get the scope, timeline and fixed price in writing before anything is built.
